CASE STUDIES: THEATER
Blue Man Group System and Video Refresh

MANAGEMENT
The Blue Man Group shows in New York, Boston, and Chicago are icons of live entertainment. In 2023, Blue Man Group and Cirque du Soleil engaged DXP as video systems consultants to lead an ambitious refresh of all show video content and the advanced video systems that deliver it.

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
DXP’s scope included three core areas:
(a) Creating detailed 3D venue models for each theater to identify optimal placement for new state-of-the-art LED video panels;
(b) Managing, subcontracting, and supervising a complete overhaul of all video content for the shows; and
(c) Designing a new technical video delivery system, integrating playback, signal processing, and display technologies to maximize visual impact.

PRODUCTION
Over a year-long project timeline, DXP collaborated with Tim Aumiller and Mark Comiskey at Blue Man Group, along with Mary Grisolano, Frank Watkins, and the Cirque du Soleil team, to engineer these advanced entertainment video systems. Each venue’s system included over 60 new hardware components to support immersive show experiences. For content creation, we engaged creative studio Pretty Damn Sweet to develop high-impact video content optimized for the new LED displays.

INTEGRATION
The installation and integration phase ensured seamless communication among all video system components. Working closely with Blue Man Group and Cirque du Soleil technical and house teams, led by Nyki DeDreu, DXP completed each installation during limited dark time. Each theater reopened with upgraded shows that quickly earned critical acclaim and enhanced commercial success.
